Entry 2: We Hunt The Flame
November 30, 2021
It is very rare that I read a book, most likely one I checked out from the library, and then go onto buy a copy for myself. I have only done that with two books. Crooked Kingdom and We Hunt The Flame.
Crooked Kingdom is a whole other entry, but We Hunt The Flame is just, *chefs kiss*
I quite literally cannot believe how well written this book is. It's an enemies to lovers, and the love interests legit don't meet until 170 pages in. Their stories begin with nothing to do with each other except comments about who they believe each other to be, and once they meet it literally becomes perfect.
Even before they find out who each other really is, you can sense the tension and the attraction between each other. And even AFTER they find out, they just can't help the pull towards each other.
I feel like there is so much I could say about this book because I think about it all the time.
I absolutely hate, haTE, HATE when there is an enemies to lovers plot and they begin like, -- I hate you, no I hate you -- and then after one of them like, saves the other or something they're like --maybe I misjudged you, I love you! -- which is the absolute dumbest thing ever.
What makes this book so perfect is that even though they sense their attraction to each other, and other people do too, but they don't admit to themselves their feelings. It's the small things that matter, like small looks and small gestures. And it wasn't until the end that they even fucking touched each other (when Zafira was helping Nasir with the burn on his neck). They didn't even kiss during that scene either.
But when they DID kiss, boy oh boy, it was like 2 pages long of description and it was just beautiful. Nasir deadass was like, I know what will bring her back to herself, and fucking kisses her. Homie was so confident in his kissing abilities that he was like, -- this will totally work -- and it did because she came out of the weird state that she was in.
And if this book couldn't get any better, after the kiss, Nasir told her that IT DIDN'T MEAN ANYTHING. Back to enemies, my friends. I mean not really enemies but like, hiding their feelings, even though they were absolutely terrible at that.
Because after he told her that, he was like -- I regret this why did I do that I didn't mean it -- but Zafira thought he was serious and totally buried her feelings again.
But what really got me was at the beginning of the book when Zafira and Yasmine were talking and Yasmine told her that -- someday someone is going to make you blush -- and then it was Nasir who was the one who made her blush when she was laying on top of him with a knife at his neck ,,,, *chefs kiss*
And the second book, also, *chefs kiss*
I am contemplating buying that book too, but I might just keep checking it out at the library. But now that I think about it, I might buy it because if I feel like reading We Hunt The Flame, I don't want to wait until it's in the library before reading it.
Huh.
Guess I have to buy another book.
Darn.
